Thai armed forces chief receives Singapore award

General Surayud Chulanont, supreme commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, has been given Singapore's highest military award, the defence ministry said here Saturday.

Singapore President S.R. Nathan conferred the Distinguished Service Order (Military) on Surayud at a ceremony Friday at the Istana state complex.

The Thai general was cited for "his significant role in forging closer ties" between the armed forces of Thailand and Singapore, the ministry said.
