North Korea angrily reacted to the arrival of Stryker troops, accusing the United States of sending "a scout party to ignite another war of aggression" against the communist state.
Sixty-five Stryker soldiers with six specially designed light armored vehicles were flown on three transport planes into the Seventh US airforce Base in Osan, some 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Seoul.
"A US Army Stryker platoon from the 3rd Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division will arrive from Fort Lewis, Washington State, for their first overseas training," the spokesman said.
"The training exercise will afford soldiers and leaders of the Stryker platoon the opportunity to conduct realistic training and familiarize themselves with terrain and conditions on the Korean peninsula," he said.
Rodong Sinmun, the official daily of North Korea's ruling Korean Workers Party, said the creation of this force was aimed to ignite another Korean War.
"This indicates that the new force ...is part of the moves to build up forces to execute the Korean War and its projected training in South Korea is intended to adapt itself to operation areas and test its combat capability," it said.
"After all, the unit can be termed an advance party, a scout party to ignite another war of aggression against the DPRK (North Korea)," it said.
North Korea is ready to strongly react against any strike of modern weapons and psychological warfare, it said.
The Stryker platoon is scheduled to return home after completing ten days of training exercises at a shooting range in Pocheon, some 40 kilometersmiles) northeast of Seoul.
The brigade was set up last month. Five other brigade teams are being established in such US states as Hawaii and Washington.
