Indian police recover pile of arms and explosives near border
JODHPUR, India (AFP) Aug 02, 2003
Indian police said Saturday they had recovered a pile of arms and explosives from a village in the northwestern state of Rajasthan close to the border with Pakistan.

They said the weapons and explosives were buried in Ramgarh, 48 kilometres (30 miles) south of the state capital Jaipur.

The haul includes 17 AK-47 rifles, eight other automatic rifles, nine pistols, 10 kg (22 pounds) of RDX explosive, 15 grenades and 5,742 rifle cartridges as well as 1,300 pistol cartridges.

"This seems to have been buried at the spot for some time. We have launched investigations," said deputy inspector general of police of Jodhpur range, Somnath Shekhar.

Police officials said the cache could have been hidden by someone crossing over the border from Pakistan but said it was too early to draw any definite conclusions.
