Navy members detained over suspected involvement in businessman's murder
JAKARTA (AFP) Aug 06, 2003
The Indonesian navy said Wednesday it has arrested four of its members, including a officer, on suspicion of involvement in the assassination of a leading businessman and his bodyguard last month.

The four have been detained by navy police since July 31, said navy spokesman Adyaman.

Adyaman, quoted by Detikcom online news service, said the four were still officially detained as witnesses but could become suspects depending on their questioning.

Budi Harto Angsono, 45, was shot by two gunmen in his car as he arrived at a sports center to play basketball with friends in North Jakarta early on July 19. His bodyguard, a soldier, was also shot dead.

Police have said they suspect members of the armed forces were behind the killing. The bullet used was a standard military issue.

Members of the armed forces sometimes moonlight as security guards. They have also sometimes been involved in off-duty violence in the past.
