Top US general departs for Latin America

The top US general departed Monday on a trip to Latin America to discuss security issues with leaders in the region, the Pentagon said.

General Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will visit El Salvador, Dominian Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua and Colombia, the Pentagon said.

Myers will discuss "issues of mutual interest and security concerns" and will meet with US and foreign troops while in the region, the Pentagon said in a statement.
