Before they crossed into India at Wagah checkpost near the eastern city of Lahore, group members said the visit had strengthened their belief that the people of Pakistan wanted peace with India.
"The era of friendship has dawned and we will keep the candle of friendship alight," one of the group, India's comic politician Laloo Prasad Yadav, told
Yadav, a popular Indian orator who stole the show during the trip, reiterated his call for ending mutual mistrust between the people of India and Pakistan.
"I will tell Indian parliament and the Indian people that Pakistanis want peace and not violence. We will soon demolish the wall of hatred erected between the two brothers," he said.
"I am ready to live in Pakistan. Pakistan is also my home," Yadav said, while accusing "big powers" of pursuing a policy of divide and rule with the Southeast Asian neighbours.
He did not identify these powers, but was understood to be referring to Britain and the United States.
"Big powers want to subjugate small countries by fanning dissention. But we will foil their designs. The two countries will resolve their differences through dialogue," he said.
The delegation was seen off by Pakistani lawmakers, journalists and peace activists.
Senator Tariq Aeem of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Q presented them with books and souvenirs from Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi.
Officials said nine Indians among the group had stayed behind after the government accepted their request to visit other parts of the country.
The delegation had attended a joint peace conference on understanding, confidence-building and conflict resolution between Pakistan and India.
The highlight of the visit was their meeting on Tuesday with President Pervez Musharraf who announced that Pakistan could facilitate a ceasefire in insurgency-hit Kashmir if India stops committing "atrocities" there.
Kashmir, divided between Pakistan and India and claimed by both, has caused two of the three wars since the two countries gained independence in 1947.
