Police seize large cache of arms in southwestern Pakistan

Pakistani authorities seized a large quantity of smuggled weapons being transported on camel to the southwestern provincial capital of Quetta for possible sabotage acts, officials said Friday.

The seizure was made late Thursday in the Kalat mountainous region, 155 kilometers (around 96 kilometers) south of here, Director Levies (rural police) Air Commodore Shaukat Changaizi told reporters.

"The arms and ammunition were carried on camels when they were intercepted but the smugglers managed to escape," he said.

The haul included two anti aircraft guns, rocket launchers, 16 rockets, 21 landmines and 6,640 rounds of ammunition.

In another raid in Loralai district authorities seized 22 rockets and 20 landmines, along with fuses and 8,000 rounds of various calibers in two raids from Duki and Mushakhial area early this week.
