UN to reinforce Ivory Coast arms embargo
UNITED NATIONS (AFP) Jan 28, 2005
The UN Security Council will Friday adopt a resolution aimed to improve efficiency of an embargo imposed November 15 on weapons headed to Ivory Coast, diplomatic sources said Thursday.

A resolution proposed by France was debated by experts for several days, and drawn up Thursday with a view to a Friday vote, they said.

The text, seen by AFP, contains a series of measures aimed at ensuring an effective embargo, and better means of arms control.

The United Nations Operation in Cote D'Ivoire and French forces supporting it would be authorized to give surveillance to the application of the arms embargo, including unannounced inspections of all plane cargo holds and transportation vehicles at seaports, airports and airfields.
