1976-1981: Introduces Soviet-made Scud-B and launchers from Egypt
1984: Test-fires improved Scud-B
1986: Test-fires Scud-C
1988: Deploys Scud-B and Scud-C
1989: Assumed start of Rodong missile development
1993: Test-fires Rodong-1
1994: Taepodong-1 in development stage
1998: Deploys Rodong missiles
Aug 1998: Test-fires Taepodong-1
Sept 1999: Declares a moratorium on missile tests
May 2001: Extends moratorium until 2003
Sept 2002: Leader Kim Jong-Il extends moratorium "beyond" 2003
Dec 2002: 15 North Korean-made Scuds seized on Yemen-bound ship
Jan 2003: Ambassador to China says moratorium may end
Feb 2003: Test-fires anti-ship missile into Sea of Japan
March 2003: Test-fires second anti-ship missile into Sea of Japan
March 2005: Ends moratorium on missile tests
