Russia says Ukraine attack damaged Zaporizhzhia plant but no safety threat Moscow, Feb 10 (AFP) Feb 10, 2026 The Russian-installed management of Ukraine's occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant said Tuesday that a Ukrainian attack disconnected one of the facility's power lines but added the situation was "under control". Radiation levels at the plant were within norms, it said. Moscow has reported damage to the plant before, and the warring sides have throughout the conflict accused each other of risking nuclear catastrophe with attacks near the facility. The Zaporizhzhia plant, which lies on the outskirts of the occupied Ukrainian town of Energodar, is the biggest nuclear power plant in Europe. It was captured by Russian forces in the first days of its 2022 offensive. "As a result of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on the industrial zone of Energodar, the city's critical infrastructure and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant have been damaged," the plant's Russian management said on Telegram. It said one of "two external power lines" was disconnected and that "the main heating pipeline has been damaged". "The supply of heat to residential buildings and social facilities in Energodar has been temporarily suspended," it added. It said specialists were assessing the damage but stressed that "the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is under control" and that "there is no threat to radiation safety". |
