All EU meetings due to be held in Cyprus in March will be moved online or rescheduled as conflict rages in the Middle East, a Cypriot official said Friday. Cyprus, which holds the European Union's rotating presidency, has been directly affected by Iranian retaliatory attacks to US-Israeli strikes, with an Iranian-made drone hitting a British base on the island this week.
"Given the partial disruptions to flight connections, in order to ensure predictability and avoid inconvenience to delegations, all meetings that are planned to take place in Cyprus in March, will either take place virtually or be rescheduled," the official said.
Defence ministers from the EU's 27 nations were due to hold talks in Nicosia next week, with economy ministers scheduled to visit the Cypriot capital later in March.
Following the drone incident, several European countries have pledged assistance to Cyprus, sending air defences and other military assets.
