Honeywell announced Thursday it has officially been recognized as a "well-known" trademark in China. This important national recognition resulted from a favorable verdict of a civil lawsuit in the Wuxi Intermediate People's Court against a defendant company, Wuxi Honeywell Precision Manufacture, which was improperly using the Honeywell name. Honeywell is only the fourth non-China based company to be granted this status, in addition to DuPont, Safeguard and Nippon. "Having 'well-known' status will protect and strengthen the Honeywell brand in China and create greater opportunities for the company to grow in one of the most dynamic economies in the world," said Honeywell China President Shane Tedjarati. "Since our start here in 1932, we have been dedicated to introducing the most innovative technologies to our customers and helping them build stronger, more efficient businesses. Honeywell now employs more than 4,000 people in China and recently opened a new Asia/Pacific Headquarters and Technology/R&D Center in the Zhang Jiang High-Tech Park in Shanghai." "Attaining 'well- known' trademark status will make our presence here even stronger and allows us to continue to build brand equity during this time of exciting economic growth in China." Mr. Tedjarati continued: "We are very grateful for the support of the Chinese government. We will continue to work closely with Chinese authorities to improve intellectual property rights (IPR) protection for both Chinese and foreign companies and Chinese consumers." Honeywell has been doing business in the Asia-Pacific region for more than 70 years, initially through distributors and later through an extensive network of subsidiaries and joint ventures. Its areas of business include aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; turbocharging systems; specialty chemicals, polymers and electronic materials. Today, the company has a presence in 13 countries in Asia Pacific, with regional headquarters located in Shanghai, China. Honeywell has major manufacturing activities in Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, and Singapore. |
