EMS Tech Wins Strategic European Military Satellite Order With Alcatel![]() SAR-Lupe will provide high-resolution imaging during all weather conditions. |
EMS's Space & Technology Group/Atlanta will manufacture and deliver space qualified X-band receiver protection and calibration networks to be integrated into the Sensor Electronics unit for the SAR-Lupe system.
The Bremen-based space company OHB-System AG is prime contractor for SAR-Lupe, a constellation of five satellites and the attendant ground segment, which marks the German entry into the field of space-based radar reconnaissance. Set for launch in 2005 through 2007, SAR-Lupe will provide high-resolution imaging during all weather conditions.
The EMS switching network will route the signals between the satellite's transmitter, antenna and receiver, while also providing a highly stable reference pathway for instrument calibration during the extended mission life. This application reflects EMS's leadership with receiver protection/calibration switching technology for advanced earth-observation satellite systems.
"We are proud of our cooperation with Alcatel Space and their confidence in our technical solution for this system. This win confirms our continued leadership in supplying ferrite technology, which will enable Alcatel to meet this mission's critical signal routing and instrument calibration demands," said Jay Grove, senior vice president and general manager - EMS's Space & Technology Group in Atlanta.
