EDO Corporation has been selected by General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems to provide up to two of its ES 3601 tactical radar Electronic Support Measures (ESM) and surveillance systems for use on the General Dynamics Flight 0 Littoral Combat Ships.

The Littoral Combat Ship is intended to be a transformational high-speed, long-endurance and reconfigurable surface combatant.

The ES 3601 is a state-of-the-art precision system that enhances ship survivability by detecting, identifying, and locating hostile ship and missile radar signals early and efficiently. With this information, the ship's commander is able to react to the threat.

"Early, accurate threat identification is essential for an effective defensive response," said James M. Smith, EDO's chief executive officer.

"Envisioned as an agile surface combatant, the LCS will rely heavily on technologically advanced weapons, sensors, and self-defense systems, such as our ES 3601. General Dynamics used their open architecture approach to select the best of breed for every aspect of the LCS mission systems. EDO has been a leader in this technology for decades, and supplying this system to the Navy's newest surface combatant will help assure our continued leadership."
