AREVA and Wroclaw University of Technology signed, on November 15th, a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in common Education and Research activities in nuclear energy.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Tadeusz Wieckowski, rector of Wroclaw University of Technology and Jean-Andre Barbosa, director of AREVA Poland, in the presence of Prof. Yuri Bobalo, rector of Lwow University of Technology, Prof. Zbigniew Gnutek, dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering, Prof.

Eugeniusz Rusinski, vice-rector for Scientific Research and Industry cooperation and Prof. Maciej Chorowski, former dean and director of Aeronautics and Energy Engineering. The signature took place following the University's official commemoration ceremony.

This latest agreement is an extension of the shared educational work already established between the two organizations. It provides university students and staff with access to specialized studies and courses offered by AREVA University, and enables them to participate in scientific research projects with AREVA professionals.

As part of AREVA's long-term engagement with the Polish scientific community, this agreement responds to the initiatives of the Polish government to educate future experts and highly-qualified staff in areas such as: design, construction, safety, operation, renovation, radioactive waste disposal, and plant decommissioning.

"AREVA's cooperation will support the high-level vocational training required as part of engineering studies", said Prof. Tadeusz Wieckowski, rector of Wroclaw University of Technology.

"Our university has important objectives in research and nuclear engineering, as well as in support solutions for energy production. Extending our agreement with AREVA is a key part of our strategy to improve cooperation with industry leaders, which is the path we want to follow."

Jean-Andre Barbosa, director of AREVA Poland, added: "As a world leader in low-carbon energy technologies, we are committed to sharing our expertise with the scientific community to help build a sound and self-reliant nuclear industry in Poland. This agreement is the next step in our cooperation with Wroclaw University of Technology, and we believe that it will quickly prove fruitful and successful."
