Cubic delivers enhanced training capabilities to RAAF
by Richard Tomkins
Washington (UPI) Jul 27, 2017

Cubic Global Defense has supplied the Australian Air Force with advanced air combat training solutions for its fleet of Hawk 127 jet aircraft.

The planes, which achieved initial operating capability earlier this month, were fitted with Cubic's P5 Combat Training Systems with Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation pods.

More than 60 sets were delivered for the upgrade of the Royal Australian Air Force's Hawk 127 fleet as part of the Lead-In Fighter Capability Assurance Program.

In addition to the Hawk 127, Cubic's P5CTS and ACMI were provided for the F/A-18F/G Super Hornet and Growler, F/A-18A Hornet and the flight test community of the RAAF's Air Warfare Center, the company said.

"We are proud to provide the Royal Australian Air Force with our industry-leading air combat training solutions for the upgrade of its Hawk aircraft," Miles Macdonald, general manager of Cubic Global Defense Australia, said in a press release. "Our solutions enable RAAF Hawk aircrew to electronically review air combat training missions with fidelity not previously seen in the Hawk fleet."

"Additionally, squadron mission supervisors now have the ability to observe aircraft during flight using the live monitor functionality, plus manage the mission and flight environment to improve training performance."

Cubic's P5 solution provides real-time and post-mission training for air-to-air, air-to-ground and surface-to-air combat missions. It does so through the use of live-air pictures, recording mission data and relaying time, space and positioning information between aircraft during training flights.

Among system components are GPS-enabled, aircraft-mounted airborne instrumentation "pods" and ground stations.
