Japan's Coast Guard is acquiring jet-powered maritime surveillance aircraft and support services for them from Dassault Aviation of France.

The aircraft being obtained are Dassault's Falcon 2000 MSA, which is based on the company's Falcon 2000LXS business jet, the company said.

"This acquisition comes after an international competition won by Dassault Aviation," said Eric Trappier, chairman and chief executive officer of Dassault Aviation. "It is a new milestone in the long-standing relationship between Dassault Aviation and the Japan Coast Guard.

"Japan has successfully operated Falcon jets for maritime surveillance and search and rescue around the Japanese archipelago since 1989 and we are extremely honored that, once again, the Japan Coast Guard has chosen to renew its confidence in our aircraft."

The number of aircraft being procured by Japan was not disclosed but Dassault said the aircraft for the Japan Coast Guard would be equipped with a platform developed by its partners, L-3 Platform Integration and Thales.
