The JVA will focus on developing a system that locates individual soldiers using GPS technology and inertial navigation which will create the ability to monitor the status of each soldier through a bio-signal.
This technology would greatly increase the ability to track soldiers and monitor their mortality status. Both companies are in the process of filing a patent application for the remote bio-monitoring system.
Meridian is utilizing its pulse analyzing technology, currently used for the Digital Pulse Analyzer, to develop an ear insertion device that carries a fiber optic sensor. The Company expects to complete the prototype in July 2005.
This remote bio-monitoring system has attracted a great deal of interest. The technology was selected for participation in the Technology Reforming Small Group Supporting Program which is promoted by the Small and Medium Business Administration ("SMBA").
The SMBA offers a variety of support systems for selected companies to provide increased market exposure.
Meridian plans to complete the development of the remote bio-monitoring module by the end of 2005 and has arranged to deliver 30,000 sets each year, which includes the initial 10,000 sets to a purchaser (covered under the Non-Disclosure Agreement) by the first quarter of 2006.
