Dutch to buy new Chinooks

Airbus Helicopters Inc. supplying aircraft to Israel Police
Grand Prairie, Texas (UPI) Sep 10, 2015 - Airbus Helicopters in the United States is to supply six civil aircraft to Elbit Systems Ltd. for use by Israeli police forces.

The order from the Israeli company is for four H125 AStar helicopters and two H145 helicopters.

"Airbus Helicopters Inc. is excited to have won this contract to replace the Israel Police helicopter fleet," said Sebastien Delmaire, vice president of Strategy and Business Development. "The delivery of these aircraft will mark the introduction of the H125 and H145 to Israel. The H125s will be the first built for a foreign customer on the Airbus Helicopters Inc. final assembly line in Columbus, Miss."

In addition to civilian law enforcement, Israel Police is engaged in counter-terrorism, border security and search-and-rescue operations.

The aircraft being supplied will feature glass panel cockpit displays, thermal imagers, searchlights, moving map systems, and cargo swings for firefighting.

Elbit Systems is providing financing for the six aircraft, along with full maintenance and spare parts support.

Delivery of the new helicopters to Elbit will begin by the end of next year.

The Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands plans to buy 14 new CH-47 Chinook helicopters from the United States and update six already in service.

The intent was relayed the lower house of parliament earlier this week in a letter from Defense Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.

"The US Army variant of the Chinook complies, with some adjustments, to Dutch operating requirements," the Defense Ministry said in announcing the decision. "These modifications will be carried out after production in the United States.

"They involve, inter alia, crash-resistant seats in the cockpit and the passenger cabin, and a VHF Combat Net Radio for secure communication with Dutch units on the ground. Other modifications will be evaluated."

The ministry said it expects to sign the Letter of Agreement for the helicopters in December, which will add the Dutch order to a larger production order at Boeing.

The buy carries a value of about $936.8 million but the could be lower through the reuse of components from the current D models Chinooks the Netherlands is replacing with the CH-47F MYII CAAS .
