Honeywell Unveils New Version of ViewPoint
by Staff Writers
London, UK (SPX) Sep 19, 2011

-

Honeywell has announceded a new release of its advanced ViewPoint web-based tracking and monitoring solution is available for trial.

Key new features in ViewPoint include search and gazetteer improvements as well as support for devices with lower resolution screens.

The improved gazetteer, or geographical directory, makes it easier to find and identify names, places and symbols on ViewPoint maps, while support for lower resolution screens optimizes the experience for the increasing number of ViewPoint users who are accessing the service on small form-factor rugged mobile computers, such as mobile workers and security personnel.

The added enhancements complement existing ViewPoint capabilities such as worldwide web-based tracking, interactive maps, terminal-to-terminal messaging, and a host of fleet management capabilities for government and enterprise customers.

The capacity for terminal-to-terminal messaging can be a great timesaver for mobile teams, as they don't have to rely on Central Command to, for instance, find the closest teams just to forward a quick message.

In addition to leveraging Google and Bing Maps, ViewPoint can display customized overlay maps, including hotspots and other points-of-interest - a must-have feature for military and security personnel operating in hostile territories.

ViewPoint works with the Osprey Personal Tracker as well as EMS Global Tracking's SAT, TAM and PDT series of Iridium and Inmarsat satellite terminals, and can be coupled with a range of flexible satellite airtime packages.

Users with modest data transfer needs can choose a very affordable package while enterprise customers with thousands of active terminals can rely on EMS Global Tracking to provide secure and dependable access to all the satellite connectivity they need. The parent company of EMS Global Tracking, EMS Technologies, was recently acquired by Honeywell.

The application is available in two levels of service - Base and Premium - with the premium service offering customized mapping, reporting and geofence options for users with large fleets and demanding or specialized needs.

ViewPoint users can choose from several geofence options, including alerts generated when a vehicle travels outside a defined route corridor; when a unit user enters and departs a geofence; or when a unit has stopped transmitting. ViewPoint also can monitor a vehicle's mileage, speed and idle rates to maximize the efficiency and health of the trucking fleet.

"ViewPoint can be seamlessly integrated into existing NATO Command and Control systems and has been successfully deployed in Afghanistan and other locations for the past several years," says Dino Koutrouki, vice president and general manager, EMS Global Tracking. "ViewPoint is a cornerstone of EMS Global Tracking's flexible and affordable Total Asset Visibility solution."
