Honeywell has been awarded a $75 million U.S. Air Force contract modification for the Versatile Affordable Advanced Turbine Engines III & Beyond program.

The VAATE program is an effort by multiple government agencies and the industry to develop revolutionary and innovative technologies that will permit an order of magnitude increase in turbo-propulsion affordability.

The technologies developed under the program are slated to be used across a variety of manned and unmanned fixed-wing and rotary platforms in the military and commercial sectors, Honeywell said in 2009.

The program seeks to provide significant improvements in the affordable capability of a range of legacy, emerging and future military propulsion and power needs, with an emphasis on versatility for dual-use application, the Air Force said.

The modification increases the ceiling value for the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract. Work will be performed in Arizona and is expected to be complete by January 2023. The Air Force Research Laboratory is the contracting activity.
