Kosmotras Denies Reports of Suspending Russian-Ukrainian Launches

International Space Company (ISC) Kosmotras will launch a Russian-Ukrainian Dnepr carrier rocket despite earlier media reports that the company's space contracts may be disrupted amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the company said Friday.

"We inform our current and future customers that media reports about the suspension of the Dnepr program are untrue. All works by ISC Kosmotras are carried out in accordance with previously agreed schedules," a statement by the company reads.

The company planned to carry out five Dnepr carrier rocket launches in 2016-2017.

The Dnepr program was established in 1990s by Russia and Ukraine. It converts military RS-20B intercontinental ballistic missiles into rocket carriers to put into satellites into low Earth orbit. The program uses missiles withdrawn from combat duty, solving the problem of their elimination.

Ukrainian engineers formerly carried out technical maintenance of the rockets, but Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko ordered a moratorium on military-industrial cooperation with Russia June 2014 over Moscow's alleged role in the armed conflict in the country's southeast.
