Lynk Global, Inc. (Lynk), a leader in satellite-direct-to-standard-phone (sat2phone) telecommunications, in a landmark collaboration with Telikom Limited (Telikom), has announced the launch of initial Sat2Phone services for subscribers in Papua New Guinea. This innovative partnership is set to significantly improve mobile coverage throughout the country, offering unprecedented connectivity benefits to both residents and visitors.

As a nationally owned telecommunication frontrunner in the South Pacific, Telikom provides an array of services in Papua New Guinea, encompassing local, national, and international fixed-line and mobile services. Their operations span retail and wholesale domains, offering voice and data broadband services. This strategic alliance with Lynk is poised to redefine the telecommunications landscape in Papua New Guinea.

Amos Tepi, CEO of Telikom, commented on the transformative potential of this initiative, stating, "This announcement will, over time, be instrumental in improving the lives of Papuans right across our nation." He further emphasized the superiority of Lynk's network deployment over traditional terrestrial mobile towers, acknowledging that the initial service starting in Hela Province is just the beginning of a broader expansion planned for 2024 and beyond. Tepi's vision clearly aligns with Telikom's commitment to enhancing the reach and quality of its services to both new and existing subscribers.

James Alderdice, Lynk's Vice President for Asia-Pacific, underscored the company's dedication to extending mobile connectivity across Oceania. Alderdice highlighted, "Our partnership with Telikom will enable mobile connectivity to be extended to the people of Papua New Guinea." He further noted that offering initial commercial service is a testament to Telikom's innovative approach in uniting disparate communities.

The initial phase of the Sat2Phone service will focus on SMS capabilities, with plans to broaden the scope to include voice and mobile broadband. This expansion is anticipated to eventually deliver an urban-like mobile experience to even the most remote locations in Papua New Guinea. Achieving ubiquitous connectivity through this service is expected to be particularly impactful in areas prone to natural disasters, providing life-saving emergency alerts and SMS warnings.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the realm of telecommunications in Papua New Guinea. By leveraging Lynk's advanced satellite technology, Telikom is not just overcoming the geographical constraints that have historically hindered connectivity but is also setting a new standard for mobile communication in remote areas.
