Emirates Technology Innovation Center says its locally conceived and developed radar system is set to be tested this summer.

The July test of the radar for detecting aircraft and missiles was announced by an unidentified official on Sunday at the Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The UAE-based company is working on several other projects, including installing an antenna on a drone to jam electronic signals in a particular area.

"This is our innovation, and idea," the unidentified official was quoted by the Khaleej Times, but details of the system were not disclosed.

The report said Abu Dhabi-based defense manufacturers, who entered into the new industry some eight years ago with the production of heavy military vehicles, are now involved in research and development and manufacturing of sophisticated weapons equal to those from developed nations.

Abu Dhabi-based company Adcom is manufacturing five different types of drones, some of them in the service. Among them is the Yabhon-United 40, a medium-altitude long-endurance UAV for strategic missions.

New NTU microchip shrinks radar cameras to fit into a palm
Singapore (SPX) Feb 26, 2016
Scientists at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) have developed a chip that allows new radar cameras to be made a hundred times smaller than current ones. With this NTU technology, radar cameras that usually weigh between 50 kg and 200 kg and are commonly used in large satellites can be made to become as small as palm-sized. Despite being small, they can produce im ... read more
