DISASTER MANAGEMENT
Post-storm, New Yorkers love Bloomberg - and Chris Christie

Three of four New Yorkers think Mayor Michael Bloomberg is doing a good job on the heels of deadly superstorm Sandy, but they are even bigger fans of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a new poll released Tuesday found.

A whopping 89 percent said that Christie -- the straight-talking Republican governor of the neighboring state who was quick to praise President Barack Obama's response to the disaster -- was doing a good job, the Qunnipiac poll found.

When asked who responded best during the crisis, the plurality of those polled -- 36 percent -- chose Christie.

He was followed by Obama (22 percent), New York Governor Mario Cuomo (15 percent), and finally Bloomberg (12 percent).

"That love fest between ... Christie and President Barack Obama seems to have moved voters especially," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, referring to an October 31 visit by the president and Christie to Atlantic City.

"While all four leaders get very high marks -- it seems a hug or two never hurts," Carroll said.

Sandy crashed into the area October 29 killing 43 people in New York City alone, doing widespread damage and leaving thousands without power.

"However, this year, due to funding shortfalls, it has ... read more
