Arianespace has confirmed the launch of the Sentinel-2C satellite, part of the Copernicus Earth observation program, scheduled for September 3. The Sentinel-2C satellite is designed to monitor land and vegetation, providing critical data for agricultural practices, forestry management, and disaster response.

The Sentinel-2C satellite will be launched aboard a Vega rocket from the Guiana Space Center. This mission marks another milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Arianespace and the European Space Agency (ESA). The satellite is equipped with a state-of-the-art multispectral instrument capable of capturing high-resolution images in 13 spectral bands.

The data collected by Sentinel-2C will be used to support a wide range of applications, including monitoring urban sprawl, tracking changes in land use, and assessing the impacts of climate change. The satellite's high-resolution imagery will also aid in the management of natural resources and improve responses to natural disasters.

The Sentinel-2C mission is part of the larger Sentinel-2 series, which includes Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B. Together, these satellites provide comprehensive coverage of the Earth's surface, ensuring continuous and reliable data for users worldwide.

With the upcoming launch, Arianespace continues to play a vital role in advancing Earth observation capabilities. The Sentinel-2C satellite is expected to contribute significantly to the Copernicus program's objectives of providing timely and accurate environmental data.

Paris, France (SPX) Jul 22, 2024
If there had been an astronaut aboard the historic first launch of Europe's Ariane 6, this is what they would have seen: images and videos from key phases of the flight, captured by the YPSat payload, a project led by ESA Young Professionals during their own time. Attached to the launcher's upper stage, YPSat served as a crucial observer throughout the test flight. The payload transmitted its stored images and data back to Earth, providing invaluable insights into Ariane 6's performance. Key ... read more
