South Korean Coast Guard receives second S-92 helicopter

Sikorsky has delivered its second S-92 helicopter to the South Korean Coast Guard to bolster the Guard's maritime patrol and search and rescue capabilities.

The company announced on Tuesday that the new rotorcraft will join an S-92 that has been in service with South Korea's Coast Guard since 2014, where it has participated in several successful rescues at sea and emergency medical evacuation missions. The second helicopter is expected to enter service by the end of the year.

"The safety and performance of our current S-92 aircraft has truly provided reliability when it comes to the time-sensitive mission of saving lives," Kim Youngmo, the South Korean Coast Guard's Senior Superintendent, said in a press release.

"We look forward to putting this new aircraft into operations to continue performing our mission."

The Sikorsky S-92 is a medium-lift utility helicopter that can serve in a variety of land and sea-based roles. It is used by 11 countries for Head of State transport missions and has been selected by the U.S. Navy to replace its Marine One helicopter fleet.

The helicopter can carry up to 19 passengers and is popular for executive transport, airliner duties, search-and-rescue and maritime patrol missions.
