Tablet line aimed at retail staff

Japanese electronics maker Casio has announced a range of Android tablets designed to help retail staff do their work, from the shop floor to the stock room.

The V-T/N500 tablets are being promoted as being dust proof, splash resistant, surviving drops of up to three feet and offering full point-of-sale capabilities, ItProPortal.com reported.

Providing retail staff with such tablets can help to improve the customer experience, merging the benefits of in-store shopping with the convenience of online browsing, Casio said.

Staff can have product information to respond to customer inquiries at their fingertips and can quickly access stock inventories, the company said.

"The new hardware provides potentially endless possibilities for the retailer, and is tough enough to survive the rigors of the retail business environment," Guy Boxall, senior product marketing manager at Casio, said.

"It also offers a mobile point of sale option -- to make shopping a more fluid experience," he said. "With this technology, sales assistants can queue-bust and close purchases before walk-outs during busy periods."

With a 10.1-inch screen and running the latest version of the Android operating system, the tablets are expected to have a battery life of up to 12 hours, with a 1.5-gigahertz dual-core processor and front and rear facing cameras.
