The U.S. Air Force's will send its F-35A fighter jet overseas for airs hows for the first time in England.

The Lockheed Martin-build F-35 Lightning II, a fifth-generation multi-role fighter jet, will be on display at the Royal International Air Tattoo at Royal Air Force Fairford, England, and at the Farnborough International Air Show.

The planes will be provided by the 56th Fighter Wing from Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh says the force is eager to demonstrate their fighter's next-generation capabilities.

"The F-35 represents a new way of thinking about data integration, weapons and tactics. We're thrilled to highlight the program and the amazing Airmen who support this cutting-edge fighter," Welsh said.

In addition to being on display, the jets will fly heritage flights alongside older fighters from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War in an effort to showcase the development of air power over the decades.

"The F-35 will be the backbone of the Air Force fighter fleet and represent the future for the U.S., our partners and allies. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to see how amazing the F-35 is," 56th Fighter Wing commander Brig. Gen. Scott Pleus said.

The Royal International Air Tattoo will take place July 7 through July 9, and the Farnborough International Air Show will take place July 11 through July 17.
