U.S. Navy orders radar detection kits for MH-60R aircraft

The U.S. Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin a $45.8 million contract to deliver automatic radar detection kits to support MH-60R Seahawk helicopters.

The order covers 29 automatic periscope detection radars and discrimination standard retrofit p-kits. Periscope detection radars such as the Navy's AN/SPS-74(V) use a high-resolution sensor to quickly scan the surface for threats.

Work on the contract will be performed in Farmingdale, N.Y.; Owego, N.Y.; Oldsmar, Fla.; and several other locations. The U.S. Department of Defense expects the work to be complete by September 2020.

Lockheed Martin received $48.8 million in Fiscal 2017 procurement funds at the time of the contract award. The Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md., is listed as the contracting activity.

The MH-60R Seahawk is a maritime rotorcraft used to support anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare missions. The aircraft can also support surveillance, communications relay and search-and-rescue operations.
