President Mohammad Khatami hailed the European Union's drive to engage in dialogue with Iran, after Tehran struck a deal Tuesday with Britain, France and Germany on its nuclear crisis."I welcome the coming of the three ministers. This not only shows their wish to have relations with Iran but also their wish to contribute to peace and stability in the region," the Iranian president said.
"New crises in the region must be avoided," he added. "I hope we can move forward and remove tensions in the region."
