Gang trying to peddle Cesium arrested in Ukraine: report

 Ukrainian security services announced Thursday the arrest of several members of a criminal gang that was trying to illegally purchase two containers of radioactive Cesium-137 for 120,000 dollars in Crimea.

They said the gang had been followed for six months, with the authorities believing that the containers were being purchased so that they could be sold off to future clients, Interfax reported.

Cesium-137 is used in metallurgy and medicine. It can also be used for the construction of so-called "dirty bombs" that spew low level radiation.
