Air raid sirens sound in central, northern Israel: army
Jerusalem, Nov 24 (AFP) Nov 24, 2024
Air raid sirens were activated in several areas of central and northern Israel on Sunday, the army said, after projectiles were fired from Lebanon.

The sirens sounded in "a number of areas in central Israel" and in different parts of the country's north, the military said.

It added in separate statements that 18 projectiles crossed from Lebanon towards central Israel, while around 30 projectiles were "identified crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory" in the north.

Some of the projectiles were intercepted, the army added.

Israel's emergency medical service Magen David Adom said it had provided treatment to two people including a 70-year-old woman who was slightly injured.

The Israeli police said they were searching the impact sites from projectiles or from the debris after they were intercepted by Israel's air defence systems.

Israel's army said more than 70 projectiles fired from Lebanon were identified Sunday morning before the latest wave of sirens and projectiles.

After nearly a year of limited cross-border exchanges of fire, in which Lebanon's Hezbollah said it was acting in support of Hamas, Israel escalated air strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on September 23.

A week later it sent in ground troops to southern Lebanon.
