Israeli warplanes break sound barrier over Beirut
Beirut, Lebanon, March 28 (AFP) Mar 28, 2026
Israeli warplanes broke the sound barrier over Beirut on Saturday night, state media reported, as AFP journalists and residents heard loud booms reverberate across the city and in the mountains.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported Israeli planes breaking the sound barrier several times, including "over Beirut and its suburbs, Metn and Keserwan, reaching as far as the Bekaa and Hermel".

Residents heard the booms in several parts of the country.

Lebanon was drawn into the Middle East war on March 2 when Iran-backed Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel after the killing of the Islamic republic's supreme leader.
