French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday said Europe would have to "respond" in the event of excessive windfall profits of energy companies or "speculative behaviour" due to the Middle East war.Speaking after meeting European leaders in Armenia, Macron said, however, that at this stage, no "producers anywhere" were deliberately driving up energy prices.
Some EU countries including Germany and Spain have called for a tax on energy companies' windfall profits, and the EU said earlier this month it was looking into the matter.
