Israel army says two soldiers killed in south Lebanon fighting
Jerusalem, June 1 (AFP) Jun 01, 2026
The Israeli army announced Monday that two of its soldiers had been killed in separate incidents in southern Lebanon, bringing to 27 the number of Israeli military deaths since early March.

Staff Sergeant Adam Tzarfati, 20, and Captain Doctor Ori Yosef Silvester, 30, "fell in combat in southern Lebanon", the army said in two separate statements.

Israeli military sources told AFP that both Tzarfati and Silvester were killed in Hezbollah drone attacks.

The army said that Silvester was killed in an operation near the strategic Beaufort Castle, which the military captured on Sunday

In total, 27 Israelis have been killed -- 26 soldiers and one civilian contractor -- since hostilities between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah resumed on March 2, when the Shiite militant group reopened the front in support of Tehran, following US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
