Saab offering Swordfish mission system on Bombardier platforms
by Ryan Maass
Changi, Singapore (UPI) Feb 24, 2016

Saab is now offering its Swordfish maritime C4ISR mission system on Bombardier's Q400 turboprop and Global 6000 jet platforms.

Saab's Swordfish maritime patrol aircraft mission system is used for long-duration patrol or search-and-rescue missions, and can also be used for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare operations.

Bombardier's Global 6000 jet and Q400 turboprop were both developed as commercial planes, but have been modified for military use. Saab officials say the Swordfish offering on both platforms afford more options for the customer.

"We are proud to offer the cutting-edge Swordfish MPA system on a brand-new, high-performance aircraft, which can be a turboprop or a jet. Potential customers are free to select the platform that best serves their operational needs," Saab Support and Services head Jonas Hjelm said in a statement.

Hjelm added the company's experience with building submarines, surface ships and aircraft make the partnership with Bombardier a good fit for a maritime patrol aircraft program.
