Skylo, a leader in Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) communications, has announced its achievement in unlocking satellite connectivity for over a billion devices worldwide, spanning various industries and applications. This milestone positions Skylo as the largest commercial standards-based direct-to-device network globally.

This expansion reflects the growing demand from both consumers and businesses for reliable connectivity. A recent survey of over 1,000 Americans revealed that 76% experience frustration, anxiety, or safety concerns due to cellular coverage gaps. Satellite SMS has emerged as a vital solution to address these connectivity challenges. The survey highlighted that 59% frequently encounter poor signals, with 20% facing issues daily. For many, satellite SMS offers a dependable connection for emergencies, navigation, and everyday communication. Among respondents, 70% identified Emergency Services or Navigation as critical use cases, while 46% noted coverage issues in everyday locations, such as their neighborhoods, commutes, or visits to friends and family. Skylo's ability to connect with existing satellite constellations ensures uninterrupted coverage, even in urban areas and at the edges of cellular networks.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Skylo shared its vision for a new standards-based ecosystem supporting direct-to-device connectivity. The company's innovative approach begins at the chipset level, allowing devices to seamlessly switch to satellite signals when cellular coverage is unavailable. This integrated system also operates at the OS level, providing users with clear and consistent satellite communication experiences. Skylo leverages Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) spectrum, a globally regulated resource, ensuring worldwide accessibility without relying on carrier spectrum.

"2025 is the year for satellite-connected devices at global scale - consumers and businesses will begin to experience seamless connectivity in their daily lives no matter where they go," said Parthsarthi Trivedi, CEO and co-founder of Skylo Technologies. "For a satellite company, we spend an incredible amount of our time and energy working to ensure that all the elements here on Earth work together in a coherent and seamless manner. No one else has built an integrated experience from the ground up with a standards-based ecosystem of partners from chipset makers to module and device manufacturers, certification testing labs, SIM providers, and mobile carriers. We are paving the way forward for the entire industry to embrace enhanced connectivity in their products and services."

Skylo users have already sent millions of satellite-based messages globally, and the network is equipped to support billions of devices. Its robust, licensed satellite spectrum accommodates a wide range of devices, including smartphones, vehicles, and IoT applications.

At CES, Skylo also showcased collaborations with industry leaders to advance satellite-based technologies. Partnering with Grinn, KYOCERA AVX, and Sony Altair, Skylo developed a reference design demonstrating the capabilities of NB-NTN satellite technology for tracking and measurement. This versatile platform, displayed at the KYOCERA AVX booth #4816 in LVCC West Hall, supports diverse applications and highlights the potential of satellite-enabled devices.
