Spire Global, Inc. (NYSE: SPIR) in collaboration with NorthStar Earth and Space, is set to launch the first commercial SSA satellite constellation, marking a significant milestone in space safety and sustainability.

The mission, dubbed 'Four of a Kind', is scheduled for no earlier than January 18, with a launch window between 19:15-20:00 NZT (06:15-07:00 UTC). The launch will take place at Rocket Lab's Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand.

Peter Platzer, CEO of Spire Global, highlighted the significance of this launch, stating, "The upcoming launch of the first commercial space situational awareness constellation for NorthStar symbolizes more than just a technological achievement; it's a reflection of our shared dedication to addressing sustainability in space." Platzer emphasizes Spire's innovative 'Space as a Service' model, which facilitates the rapid development and deployment of space-based solutions like those of NorthStar, aiming to address critical challenges both on Earth and in orbit.

The mission's primary objective is to deploy the initial set of NorthStar's SSA satellites into low Earth orbit (LEO). This deployment is a landmark event, positioning NorthStar as the first commercial provider to actively monitor and analyze space traffic from space itself. The satellites are designed to comprehensively scan all near-Earth orbits, providing advanced SSA services. These services include precise tracking and monitoring of space objects, orbit determination, collision avoidance, and navigation, significantly enhancing safety and operational efficiency for the global satellite community.

NorthStar's CEO, Stewart Bain, expressed pride in their collaborative efforts with Spire and Rocket Lab, emphasizing the mission's contribution to space sustainability. "Our success is rooted in this collaboration. We are working together to make significant contributions to the sustainability of space, and this first launch of NorthStar's transformational space-based SSA services is only the beginning," Bain said. He also noted the inspirational aspect of this mission for future generations.

Peter Beck, founder and CEO of Rocket Lab, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, recalling Spire's participation in their inaugural orbital mission in 2018. "To be partnered up again and both still pushing boundaries with new technology and capabilities all these years later is a great full circle moment," Beck remarked.

This launch represents Spire's first dedicated launch mission and its 39th launch campaign. Since its inception, Spire has been at the forefront of small satellite technology, having designed, built, and launched over 170 satellites, contributing significantly to the commercial space industry. As space traffic continues to increase, the need for comprehensive monitoring and management of space objects becomes ever more critical.
