Trump studying possibility of permanent US base in Poland Washington, Sept 18 (AFP) Sep 18, 2018 US President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is seriously considering building a permanent US military base in Poland. "We're looking at it very seriously," Trump told reporters as he received Polish President Andrzej Duda in the Oval Office. "Poland is willing to make a very major contribution to the United States to come in and have a presence in Poland. "If they're willing to do that, it's something we will certainly talk about," Trump added. During a subsequent press conference, Duda voiced support for the idea. "I hope you will take the decision to deploy more units and equipment... I would like to see a permanent American base in Poland," he said, suggesting it should be called "Fort Trump." Such a move would fuel tensions between NATO, of which Poland is a member, and Russia, which would see a new, permanent US base so close to its borders as a threatening military expansion.
