Germany urges US to 'reconsider' Open Skies treaty pull-out
Frankfurt am Main, May 21 (AFP) May 21, 2020
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Thursday called on the United States to "reconsider" its decision to withdraw from the Open Skies arms treaty with Russia.

Maas said in a statement that France, Poland and Britain had repeatedly explained to Washington that the difficulties on the Russian side in recent years "did not justify" pulling out.

US President Donald Trump announced his decision on Thursday, saying Moscow had not stuck to its commitments under the 18-year-old pact, which was designed to improve military transparency and confidence between the superpowers.
