In remarks made next to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Zayani said Bahrain's historic decision to establish ties with the Jewish state would help foster "a dawn of the peace for the entire Middle East".

"In order to achieve and consolidate such a peace, the Palestinian and Israeli conflict needs to be resolved," Zayani said.

"I therefore call for both parties to get around the negotiating table to achieve a viable two-state solution as is also sought by the international community," he added.

The Palestinians condemned Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates for establishing ties with Israel, calling the moves a "a stab in the back" and a betrayal of Arab unity.

The Gulf-Israeli deals breached decades of Arab League practice against making peace with Israel until the Palestinian conflict was resolved.
