Canadian military plane rams French plane on tarmac
Paris, July 25 (AFP) Jul 25, 2023
A Canadian military transport plane slammed into a stationary French aircraft at the US Pacific air base in Guam, the French armed forces said Tuesday.

Nobody was hurt in the incident Saturday at the Andersen air base, which involved a CC-150 Royal Canadian Air Force plane and the French A400M which was parked and had no personnel on board, they said in a statement.

However, both aircrafts' steering systems were damaged.

The Canadian air force confirmed the collision, but did not say whether the plane was taxiing when it hit the French plane, or rolled from its parking position.

The French transport plane is in Guam as part of the Pegase 23 regional training exercise.

France has dispatched some 20 aircraft to the mission, including four A400Ms.

The exercise is to demonstrate France's "force projection", the defence ministry said, "the ability to defend its interests and those of its nationals across the world and at very short notice".

French President Emmanuel Macron is currently on a three-stop tour in the region, visiting New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
