Palestinian health ministry say 5 killed in Israel strike in West Bank Ramallah, Palestinian Territories, Jan 15 (AFP) Jan 15, 2025 An Israeli air strike killed five Palestinians in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin Wednesday, the Ramallah-based health ministry said shortly after news broke of a Gaza ceasefire deal. The ministry said five people arrived at Jenin's main hospital "as a result of the occupation's bombing of Jenin camp", which had until recently seen intense clashes between Palestinian security forces and armed militants. The Israeli military told AFP that it had conducted an air strike "in the Jenin area" on Wednesday. Before the health ministry's announcement, the Palestinian Red Crescent said its first responders had transported the bodies of three Palestinians, and two other critically wounded Palestinians, all in connection to the air strike. Wednesday's strike came as news spread that a deal was struck for a ceasefire in Gaza, where Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has been at war with Israel for more than 15 months. On Tuesday, the Israeli military killed six Palestinians in a strike on the same camp, with the Israeli military confirming an attack. Israeli forces make frequent raids on Palestinian towns and villages in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967. Violence in the territory has soared since the war in Gaza broke out on October 7, 2023. Israeli troops or settlers have killed at least 836 Palestinians in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war, according to the health ministry. At least 28 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military raids in the territory over the same period, according to Israeli official figures.
