North Korea Says Its Nuclear Weapons Are Designed To Protect South Korea![]() North Korea said Monday its atomic weapons programme is designed to protect South Korea from a US nuclear threat, and blasted Seoul's main opposition party as traitors over their call for sanctions. Rodong Sinmun, newspaper of the ruling communist party, said the "war deterrent" -- its term for the nuclear programme -- was created to avert moves by "US imperialists" to launch a nuclear war and invade the North. SKorea Goes Its Own Way On NKorean Sanctions ![]() South Korea confirmed Monday it would not join a US-led initiative to inspect cargo to and from nuclear-armed North Korea for fear of sparking naval clashes, despite US pressure to take part. It also announced it would not take any new steps to enforce UN sanctions imposed on the North following its October 9 nuclear test, saying it already had stronger measures in place than any other country. AFSO 21 Process - Weapons To Warfighters Faster ![]() When the AIM-120D production program manager was asked to be team leader on an Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st century rapid improvement event, he was a little skeptical. India Will Not Cut Military Spending, Cites Growing Terror Threats![]() India, the largest arms purchaser among emerging nations, said Monday it will not prune its military spending, because of the growing threat from terrorism and regional tensions. India annually spends 14 billion dollars, or 2.34 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), on its military. Since 2004 it has either spent or committed billions of dollars in modernisation projects planned until 2010. LM Compact Kinetic Energy Missile Flight Test Against Armor Target ![]() Lockheed Martin successfully conducted a guided test flight of its Compact Kinetic Energy Missile (CKEM) against a Main Battle Tank recently at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. All objectives for this test were achieved. In addition to demonstrating CKEM's capability against an armored target, the test also gathered missile performance and lethality data. This flight was the last of three guided flight tests for this year. Lean Principles Contribute To Missile Success ![]() The members of the 309th Missile Maintenance Group completed assembly of Minuteman booster No. 75-939 Nov. 7, marking two years of early or on-time deliveries by the unit. The unit has maintained its completion and delivery record by using Lean principles, which helped organize work areas and remove waste from production processes. |

Air Force Declassifies Elite Aggressor Program![]() After decades of secrecy, the Air Force today acknowledged that it flew Communist-built fighters at the Tonopah Test Range northwest of Las Vegas. Chinese Submarine Stalks US Carrier![]() A Chinese submarine approached a US aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean last month and surfaced within firing range of its torpedoes and missiles before being detected, The Washington Times reported Monday. The newspaper said the encounter highlighted China's continuing efforts to prepare for a possible future conflict with the United States despite the administration's efforts to try to boost relations with the Chinese military.
