A $445 million sale of heavy tactical vehicles to Kuwait is forthcoming, the State Department's Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced this week.

A DSCA statement on Thursday listed 517 trucks, trailers, missile transporters and similar equipment, principally manufactured by Oshkosh Defense LLC, to sell to Kuwait's military forces.

It also specified that between 10 and 125 "embedded U.S. contract representatives" will provide training and other services to Kuwait in a five-year program. Approval by the U.S. Congress is expected, according to DSCA.

The list includes 31 HEMTT -- Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck -- Wrecker Trucks, 100 Fuel Tanker Trucks, 188 Guided Missile Transporter Trucks 50 Heavy Equipment Transporter, 50 Commercial Trailers 49 Palletized Load System Trailers and associated spare parts and other equipment.

All are variations of vehicles already in use by the U.S. military and other forces.

"Kuwait will use these heavy vehicles to transport and support heavy equipment, including their legacy M1A2 tanks and their new M1A2K main battle tank slated for delivery in 2021," the DSCA statement says in part.

Kuwait is a regular customer of U.S. armaments, as it builds its land defenses for possible desert and ground combat.

The nation currently hosts eight U.S. air bases, and a January 2021 U.S. State Department statement noted that "the U.S. has $19.3 billion in active government-to-government sales cases with Kuwait under the Foreign Military Sales system."

The State Department added that previous sales include M88A2 Recovery Vehicles, up to 28 F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter aircraft, 218 M1A2 tanks, 15 Fast Patrol Boats, sustainment and contractor logistics support for AH-64D Apache helicopters, and MIM-104E Patriot, AGM-114R Hellfire and AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM missiles.

That list includes $4.2 billion in equipment from a December 2020 sale at the end of the administration of President Donald Trump, a May 2020 approval for a $425 million deal to improve Kuwait's Patriot missile system and a July 2020 deal valued at $59.6 million to sell various M1A2K training ammunition and related equipment to Kuwait.
