AST SpaceMobile Secures Prime Contract
AST SpaceMobile, Inc. has secured an initial contract under an Other Transaction (OT) agreement with SDA, enabling the company to compete for upcoming prototype demonstrations within the HALO program. AST SpaceMobile's technology, featuring the largest commercial phased arrays in LEO, enhances both communications and non-communications functions. This technology, protected by more than 3,450 patents and patent-pending claims, promises greater coverage, reliability, and security for a variety of applications, particularly those supporting government needs.
"This initial contract validates our commitment to developing innovative solutions for national security space needs," said Chris Ivory, AST SpaceMobile Chief Commercial Officer and Head of its Government Business Unit. "Our space-based cellular broadband technology has the potential to enhance SDA's mission in transport, tracking, and ground layers with security and reliability."
The HALO program encourages competition and innovation, which aligns with AST SpaceMobile's vision. The contract solidifies the company's leadership in space technology and offers opportunities to demonstrate the scalability of its technology across multiple government applications, often referred to as "dual-use" technologies.
Muon Space Selected for HALO Initiative
Muon Space, known for designing, building, and operating customized LEO satellite constellations, has also been chosen by SDA for the HALO program. Muon Space's comprehensive platform, which includes high-performance satellites, advanced payload technology, and an integrated ground operations segment, is designed to meet SDA's high standards for schedule and execution confidence.
"We are honored to be selected by SDA for the HALO program," said Jonny Dyer, CEO of Muon Space. "Our holistic focus on the mission and our end-to-end platform are designed to fulfill the most challenging requirements, and we look forward to delivering high-speed, high-performance, and cost-effective solutions to the warfighter."
Muon Space's selection highlights its capability to deliver advanced space systems for national defense. The company has demonstrated rapid advancement by successfully launching two satellites within its first three years of operation, showing its ability to swiftly move from concept to execution.
Supporting National Security and Innovation
The HALO program is a key part of the SDA's strategy to accelerate the deployment of emerging technologies in LEO. It focuses on innovations in payload, processing, communications, and spacecraft systems, all of which play crucial roles in missile warning, tracking, defense, and the delivery of mission-critical data with low latency. Both AST SpaceMobile and Muon Space are expected to contribute significantly to this vision.
"SDA is proud to welcome 19 vendors into the first-ever HALO pool," said SDA Director Derek Tournear. "This creative award solution enables SDA to quickly compete, build, and fly demonstration missions to reduce risk for the future of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture. We also hope, through the HALO pool, to build a broader base of vendors that can compete for work on operational layers of future tranches."
The inclusion of both AST SpaceMobile and Muon Space in the HALO program underscores their readiness to deliver innovative space solutions that meet the evolving needs of the nation's defense infrastructure. Both companies are now positioned to collaborate with the SDA on the rapid development and testing of technologies that will shape the future of national security space missions.
