Sidus Space (NASDAQ: SIDU), a key player in the aerospace industry, recently announced that it had been granted additional hardware manufacturing subcontracts. The contracts are intended to bolster NASA's Artemis Program and the Space Launch System ("SLS") Manned Vehicle.

The subcontracts were awarded by Craig Technologies, which tasked Sidus Space with the construction of the Umbilical Quick Disconnects. These are set to be integrated into the Universal Stage Adapter for the SLS. Dynetics (NYSE: LDOS), a pioneering firm in the industry, is the prime contractor overseeing the development of the Universal Stage Adapter for NASA's SLS.

The SLS, a super heavy-lift launch vehicle, has been projected as a cornerstone for human exploration beyond the confines of Earth's orbit. The SLS has been especially linked to NASA's Artemis program, which has established its aim to facilitate human return to the Moon, establish a sustainable human presence there, and use the knowledge gained to prepare for future manned missions to Mars.

The SLS is tasked with launching the Orion spacecraft, astronauts, and necessary cargo to the Moon in a single mission. Its design incorporates flexibility to adapt to future deep-space missions.

Sidus' Founder and CEO, Carol Craig, commented on the recent development, saying, "The award of this subcontract further validates Sidus' ability to deliver mission critical hardware to our key partners and vendors."

She added, "As a result of this award, our Umbilical Quick Disconnects are expected to be a significant piece of hardware on NASA's Space Launch System Manned Vehicle. We are proud to contribute to the Artemis Program's goals of returning a human to the moon and propelling NASA's deep space exploration."

Sidus Space has already made headway with the Umbilicals, delivering them to NASA's Kennedy Space Center for testing in July 2022. The subcontract approval allows Sidus to undertake the manufacturing of the Qualification test set Umbilicals, as well as conduct the requisite Qualification testing. This ensures that the Umbilicals will perform optimally when incorporated into the Universal Stage Adapter on the Artemis rocket.
