Biden to speak on Myanmar coup at 1800 GMT: White House
Washington, Feb 10 (AFP) Feb 10, 2021
US President Joe Biden will speak on the Myanmar coup later Wednesday, the White House said.

Biden will "deliver remarks on the administration's response to the coup in Burma" at 1800 GMT, a statement said, using the US government's name for the country.

On Tuesday, State Department spokesman Ned Price condemned use of force against anti-coup protesters in Myanmar, saying "we strongly condemn violence against demonstrators. All individuals in Burma have rights to peaceful assembly."

Late Tuesday, Myanmar's military raided the Yangon headquarters of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi's party, officials said.

The latest assault on Myanmar's civilian leadership came as anger at last week's coup and the detention of Suu Kyi by the generals has driven hundreds of thousands of people into the streets, defying a junta ban on rallies.
