France's Naval Group expresses 'diasppointment' at Australia sub decision

France's Naval Group expressed its "great disappointment" Thursday at the decision by Australia to build nuclear-powered submarines in a new partnership with the United States and Britain.

The announcement, by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison hit Naval Group's multi-billion euro contract with the country to build 12 state-of-the-art Attack Class subs.

La décision de l'Australie de se doter de sous-marins à propulsion nucléaire en partenariat avec les Etats-Unis et le Royaume-Uni constitue une "grande déception" pour Naval Group, a réagi mercredi l'industriel de défense français, qui voit un contrat de 50 milliards de dollars australiens (31 milliards d'euros) torpillé par cette annonce.

"Le Commonwealth d'Australie n'a pas souhaité engager la phase suivante du programme, ce qui est une grande déception pour Naval Group qui proposait à l'Australie un sous-marin conventionnel de supériorité régionale avec des performances exceptionnelles", a affirmé le groupe dans une déclaration transmise à l'AFP.
